about us

Reefs For Oceans, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is building one of the most extensive man-made artificial reefs offshore of Key Biscayne, Florida, covering a 14-acre site. How big is that? Try to picture over almost 11 football fields, end zones included. Then, imagine being part of an underwater biological growth project supporting hard & soft corals, sea urchins, sponges, our favorites, Grouper, Snapper, and Lobster, and marine life of all sizes and at all stages of life. This project is a Marine Protected Area and a No-Take Zone where harvesting any form of marine life is prohibited.
To be enjoyed by generations to come and will begin with the plantings of live corals and seagrasses. As life takes hold, which it will, Reefs for Oceans will fund marine biology students from our colleges and universities to provide for their In-Situ education. Their experience will begin with scuba lessons, provided by our dive partners Diver’s Paradise, and then dive onto the reef and natural reefs with our dive leaders. These intern biologists will assist in recording the growth of the reef while learning firsthand about hundreds of marine life species. Our vision is to provide the finest In-Situ education experience for our future marine biologists while providing them a firsthand, natural underwater expertise in their chosen careers.
As you read about this project and our intentions, we can do it with support from readers like you. So please enjoy our site and consider a donation.
